David Grimes, the county representative from the PPW state association will lead this months meeting, or not depending of whether a calendar mix up is straightened out.But fear not, Brad Bogue’s roundtable discussions bring up topics worthy of a larger audience, so there will be something of interest to all at the November meeting. If not we can recount all the votes for the board of directors. Holiday Party the following week Monday Dec 4th 7:00 PM at Eddie’s of course.

The President was very busy this month and is unable to enlighten us with his perspective.

By Brad Bogue
Have you ever felt light ratios are a real puzzler? It's actually fairly simple to calculate, but, much harder to visualize what the finished image will look like. Last month we proved the inverse square law was working which leads to the practical application of lighting principles. Bring your own light meter and tape measure. We'll set up two lamps and watch the magic as we adjust them to common ratios. While seeming to be basic and something you could skip, I'm sure you'll find this review an eye opening experience. Why? We are not just going to talk, we're going to experiment and investigate, in other words we'll demonstrate and involve you, so, you can see lighting fundamentals like you may never have.
We'll start by calculating the exposure in sunlight then we'll replace the sun with man made lights including flash. We'll talk about the formulas for calculating exposure with flash and when light changes. We'll play with the idea that light is additive, even when we mix light sources such as a bride exposed by flash in a church lit by incandescent light.
We'll talk about introducing and controlling contrast in lighting and by development. This is something commonly done when there was only black and white film available. It's still a valid principle especially in digital using the histogram.
We'll set up lights and move them to determine ratios of lighting on a subject and small group. Again we'll probably see an application of the inverse square law as the lights change position and a new meter reading is established. As we light subjects we'll encounter a hot spot and the lights feathered area. We'll see them and discus how to use them.
This should be quite a Round Table discussion. Great review and most likely some differing opinions. Great fun, come to the meeting early (5:30) and let's talk........
